Questions, answered
Everything you might be wondering
Starting therapy can bring up a lot of questions. Here’s what to expect when you work with Jenni Swenson — from your first session to how insurance and scheduling work.
Getting started
How do I get started?
Reach out through the SimplePractice client portal at jenni-swenson.clientsecure.me, by phone at (505) 927-6011, or through Jenni’s Psychology Today profile to request an appointment. You can also email swensonsmentalhealth@gmail.com. Jenni will follow up to schedule your first session.
What should I expect in the first session?
The first session is a chance to get to know each other. Jenni will ask about what brought you in, what you’re hoping to work on, and what’s been going on in your life. There’s no pressure to share everything at once — you set the pace. It’s also a great time to ask any questions you have about the process. After the initial session, you’ll receive a treatment plan to review.
How long are sessions?
Sessions are flexible, ranging from 30 to 60 minutes depending on your needs. For private pay clients, if a longer session (beyond 60 minutes) is needed, that can be discussed with Jenni directly. For insurance clients, sessions are up to 60 minutes maximum, as that is what insurance will cover. Insurance typically covers at least one session per week.
Do you offer in-person sessions?
No. Swenson’s Mental Health is 100% virtual/telehealth. Virtual therapy makes care more accessible and flexible — you can attend sessions from the comfort of your own home or wherever you feel most at ease.
How are sessions conducted?
Sessions are conducted through HIPAA-secured Zoom video. Please make sure your Zoom app is updated before your first session to avoid any delays.

Scheduling & payment
What is your cancellation policy?
A minimum of 24 hours notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will be charged a $40 fee. This fee is waived if the appointment is rescheduled to another day within the same week, depending on Jenni’s availability at that time. No-shows to a scheduled appointment will also be charged a $40 fee.
What are your rates?
Sessions are $170 per 50–60 minutes. The fee is automatically billed to your card on file through SimplePractice, so there’s nothing you need to do at the time of service.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. Jenni bills Aetna, United Health Care, and Medicare directly. For clients not using insurance, private pay is also available. She can help you understand out-of-network benefits if your plan is not one she bills directly. If you have insurance questions or want to inquire about coverage, feel free to reach out — other insurances may be accepted beyond those listed. Insurance typically covers at least one session per week. In the case of a crisis, up to 2 sessions per week may be possible, depending on your insurance coverage. Whether 2 sessions per week will be fully covered is determined solely by your insurance and cannot be guaranteed.
Is therapy confidential?
Yes. What you share in sessions is confidential. There are a few legal exceptions (such as safety concerns), which Jenni will explain in your first session.
Ready when you are
Taking the first step is often the hardest part. Whenever you feel ready, reaching out is simple — and Jenni will meet you where you are.
